About Dance/USA's National Company Roster

The National Company Roster is a listing created and maintained by Dance/USA that tracks nonprofit dance companies in the United States. Presently, the Roster includes dance companies with budgets above $100,000 as reflected by a company's expenses. Updates to the Roster are made to the Dance/USA website twice a year.

To be included on the Roster, a dance company must

  • Have 501c3 status,
(fiscal sponsorship is insufficient to meet this requirement)
  • Have filed a federal 990 form in the previous 2 fiscal years,
(i.e. if a FY 2012 form is unavailable at the time of data collection, but dance company’s FY 2011 form is available, then the company will remain on the Roster for the 2011 FY list)
  • Pay the dancers that perform for the company,
(if the company works exclusively with students who are paying tuition fees to the company, that organization is ineligible for inclusion on the Roster)
  • Be located in one of the 50 U.S. States or the District of Columbia, and
  • Have maintained dance performance activity during the period in question.

The National Company Roster has been in existence for over a decade, and Dance/USA has historical data on some of the companies on the Roster stretching as far back as 2000.

Dance/USA frequently adds new companies to the Roster. If your organization fits the criteria above, please send an email to the director of information services and include the following:

  • Name of the Dance Company
  • EIN
  • City, State
  • Website (if applicable)
