Washington, DC – Dance/USA, the national service organization for professional dance is pleased to announce the selection of six early-career dance leaders and six mentors for the Dance/USA 2020 Institute for Leadership Training (DILT), a national dance mentorship and leadership development program. The overarching goal of Dance/USA’s Institute for Leadership Training is to build the leadership and decision-making skills of early-career dance leaders who represent the diversity of the national, professional dance community. The program has a specific focus on supporting individuals of African, LatinX, Asian, Arab, and Native American descent; individuals with disabilities or working in physically integrated dance; and individuals from a diversity of gender identities including transgender, agender, gender fluid, and genderqueer. The members of the 2020 DILT cohort were selected through a competitive process, and work within a broad range of genres and communities across the country. The 2020 cohort will engage in a six-month one-on-one mentorship experience which begins at the Dance/USA 2020 Virtual Conference and runs through December 2020. “Dance/USA is excited to launch the 2020 DILT cohort. This year has provided significant challenges for everyone, affecting personal support systems and connections. The DILT mentorship program is designed to help fill those gaps, thereby strengthening mechanisms for compassion, insight, and guidance. Congratulations to all of the 2020 program participants!” said Dance/USA Executive Director Amy Fitterer.
