On October 7, the President stalled Congressional negotiations with the White House to provide comprehensive pandemic relief to our nation’s businesses, nonprofit organizations, states, local governments, schools, families, and individuals. House Democratic Leadership and U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, up until the President’s directive on October 7, were negotiating on a comprehensive package to provide additional federal stimulus payments to families and individuals, extend federal enhanced unemployment compensation, extend and expand the Paycheck Protection Program, and provide funding for schools to reopen safely, among other relief initiatives.
On September 25, the U.S. House passed a second and slimmed down version of its $3.4 trillion Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act legislation that passed the chamber in May. The HEROES Act II legislation (H.R. 925) costs about $2.2 trillion, extends most of the relief initiatives established under the $2.2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act signed into law in March, and provides $135 million each for the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Negotiating sides continue to discuss specific pandemic relief for our nation’s businesses, nonprofit organizations, and families. Please continue to urge your Congressional delegation to immediately act to provide pandemic relief. Dance/USA is also urging the general public, especially dance artists and dance professionals, through its get-out-the-vote campaign – #Dance2Vote – to register to vote and vote early to ensure they are represented by responsive and proactive elected officials at all levels of government.
