House Amendment Proposes $23 Million Cut to NEA; House to Vote on Cut Today!
In the past few months, Congress has continued to demonstrate bipartisan support for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), with both House and Senate Appropriations Committees approving a budget for the U.S. Department of Interior that includes $155 million in funding for the NEA and NEH. This would be a $2 million increase for the cultural agencies and would reach the funding amount that arts advocates have been requesting for years.
Today the full House of Representatives will vote on the Interior budget, an occurrence that has been rare in recent years that have seen numerous continuing resolutions and omnibus funding bills. Last night, Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI) offered an amendment that would cut the cultural agencies by $23 million in an effort to cut spending.
Now is the time to contact your Congressional representatives and urge them to oppose the Grothman amendment and to support a budget of $155 for NEA!
